Multi Style Magic

I am looking to multiclass my ranger in Dungeons and Dragons could someone help me find the right class?

I am playing v.3.5
My character is a lvl 5 Elf Ranger with the archery fighting style.
I have the feats: Endurance, Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Track, and Precise Shot.
Base attack bonus of +5

I would like to multi class as something that can use a freezing magic.(if it exists, I am new to D&D and do not know that much) I want the freezing magic to make it so the target of the spell can not move to different spaces for 1+ rounds. If this is possible I would rather this be like a sorcerer class where you don't have to learn from a book like a wizard class and can only cast a certain number of spells per day. I would rather this be a Prestige Class but if not that is fine. If anyone of you are able to help me find and create this character I will appreciate it a lot.

You may have to step outside the rules for this as D&D doesn't have an exact match for "freeze" magic or "hamstring" as you might see in World of Warcraft, and I'm not familiar with any prestige class that would accomplish your needs, but I have a few thoughts. Remember, immobility is a very powerful effect in D&D:

(1) Getting levels in spellcaster will be a rough way to go with 5 levels in Ranger already, as many of the spells that "freeze" movement are much higher levels and would require 6+ levels of sorcerer to achieve (e.g. Hold Person, Slow, Solid Fog). Further, split classes get extra options, but in the case of spellcasters, they fall behind the curve on magical power (i.e. your spells will be easy to save against relative to others). Still, there is a cheap option or two:

Sorcerer 1st level spell Ray of Enfeeblement does Strength damage. Too much STR damage to anything encumbered (e.g. a warrior in armor) and they won' t be able to move at all. Since in 3.5 this spell gives NO saving throw, all you have to do is hit with a "ranged touch attack" which is going to be very good for an archer. The 2nd level spell Web can also stop targets but is a bit trickier as it hits an area and gives a save, but it too is excellent if you're thinking caster route.

(2) Poison on your arrows that paralyzes or does Strength damage (good on slowing targets carrying gear). While poison use is often evil and generally seen as cowardly, disabling poisons may be acceptable in some cultures. You'd have to speak to your DM on this.

You might step outside the rules on this one and ask your DM if you could talk to someone about a poison that freezes up muscles briefly (maybe like a "Tanglefoot" bag type effect where they can't move for a few rounds and have a DEX penalty). It may be he'll work with you on this.

(3) Borrow from another source. This too is stepping outside the rules. In Pathfinder (its the successor to 3.5 that cleaned up a lot of rules), they have a "Feat" for Monks called "Scorpion Style" where a single attack can also reduce speed to 5' a round for awhile. You may ask your DM if you can make a similar feat (Pathfinder is also free online rules so you can look this one up for comparison).

As an example, it might require "Point Blank Shot" as a pre-requisite and requires you to make 1 attack (a "standard" action). If you hit, do normal damage and target is slowed to 5' movement a round (for rounds equal to your Wisdom modifier) unless it makes a Fortitude Save (10 + 1/2 your level + Wisdom modifier).

(4) Use Ranger Magic. It's not impressive, but Ranger magic can be useful if you're in a wilderness setting. They get the 2nd level spell "Snare" (no save, entangles target) & "Spike Growth" (save, can impede movement), which take some timing to get right but can be nice.

(5) Buy magic items. Very expensive route. Includes (if you take a level of sorcerer) Wands of Hold Person and Slow and Iron Bands of Binding (very costly but immobilizes a target).
